IRM Faculty, Dr. Kathleen O’Neill, featured for new research on mRNA therapy for heavy menstrual bleeding

Heavy menstrual bleeding is a common issue that affects millions of women, with a wide variety of causes from hormonal imbalances to conditions like fibroids to underlying issues like endometriosis. Unfortunately, it often goes overlooked and treatment options are limited.

Dr. Kathleen O’Neill, Assitant Professor of Obstetrics and co-leader of the IRM Program on Reproductive Medicine, is leading a new research program seeking to develop a new type of mRNA therapy to explore, and hopefully treat, the underlying causes of abnormal uterine bleeding. The work is funded through a $5M commitment by The Missed Vital Sign, a women’s health program launched by Wellcome Leap to accelerate breakthroughs in understanding and treating heavy menstrual bleeding.
